D.R.FARR (b. 1988) Guildford, UK
In primary school; someone once asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.
We were playing a game in the playground where the goal was to avoid stepping on the cracks on a slabbed pavement.
I can remember it vivdly.
My answer was:
"I want to be a Pirate."
I'm not sure what I meant when giving this answer at the time.
It would have been around the time film 'Hook' came out which might have influenced why I had said that.
There are two defininitions of the word pirate:
a person who attacks and robs ships at sea.
a person who appropriates or reproduces the work of another for profit without permission, usually in contravention of patent or copyright.
The response I recieved when I gave my answer was:
"Pirates don't exist"
This isn't true.
Pirates did exist, they still do.
There's probably more pirates existing now than ever.
